Review:

Monkey Blocks is a fun building game that enables young builders to create gravity-defying structures from seemingly run of the mill plastic blocks. The construction secrets are the weights hidden inside the blocks. Children quickly learn that the position of the weight affects the construction. Orange blocks have a weight on one end, green blocks have a weight in the center, and gray blocks don't have a weight.

The projects in the instruction book are color coded just as the weights are, making it relatively easy for a child to copy the structures in the book. Once a structure is built, the little monkey figures placed in the spaces created between the blocks. The monkeys will either keep the structure standing or knock it down completely. creating a sense of anticipation and fun.

A three-year-old tester caught on quite quickly and was in no time building structures not in the book, giggling every time his "building" collapsed. Another tester was intrigued and kept asking questions about why a structure wasn't falling down when it looked like it should. After much discussion and close examination of the different colored and weighted blocks she caught on to the tricks of the trade.. This entertaining game playfully teaches builders about the basic laws of physics and promotes child-driven trial and error learning.
