Faber-Castell's Blow Pen Stencil Art set contains everything necessary to get started with simple airbrushing and more. The kit consists of a sketchbook, a few colored pencils, dozens of stencils, a guide book, and four blow pens. The blow pens are the hook for the set; kids can use them as standard markers, but invert the markers in their caps and blow through them and the ink spatters smoothly on the page. The stencils are what keep young artists enthused with the set: a full alphabet, basic polygons, and a number of more elaborate designs, like a picket fence and a lightning bolt.

The Do Art booklet encourages kids to use all the different art supplies to explore the possibilities with color blending, tracing, and positive and negative stenciling. In blow-pen mode, we found that sometimes the ink flows too quickly, and sometimes not at all. And unfortunately this kit cannot be shared, as kids have to put their mouths on the pens to operate them; the instruction booklet acknowledges this stating that "germs are yucky" and sharing is not advised. This is disappointing to those children who prefer to be more social during their art time, but fine for those who prefer to work alone. But the materials are of a nice quality, especially the paperboard stencils, and children are likely to enjoy taking their art skills in a new direction.
