MarcoPolo OceanFall 2014 Mobile Apps
MarcoPolo Ocean is designed to introduce children to the ocean and its eco-system as they discover life on a coral reef, 30 species of fish and marine mammals, and build and pilot a boat and a submersible vehicle.
The initial image of the ocean spans more than one "screen" beckoning players to scroll and swipe left, right and down to see all the illustration has to offer. A puzzle icon opens activities to build a coral reef, herring, killer whale, boat and submersible. Clues are provided on where to drag individual parts to their proper position. Once completed, the ocean is ready to explore. As examples, in the Coral Reef activity, a fish icon lets players drag and place a variety of fish into the ocean. The choices of fish to add are appropriate for the level of the ocean represented in the illustration. The fish swim off to join the other sea creatures already visible. The Marine Mammal section asks players to complete a killer whale; other mammals follow. After the submersible is built it can be manipulated to explore the ocean's depths. Our young Cousteau disciples had great fun descending to the bottom of the ocean as the light diminishes and the fish and other sea life become more exotic and extraordinary.
The artwork, narration and player-directed learning both introduce and reinforce the life and language of the ocean. Settings control on/off options for music, voice over, music and fact bubbles.
