Phonics: Fun on Farm uses the phonics method to teach reading. The letters of the alphabet (and three letter combinations) are arranged in six groups, starting with s/a/t/p and m. When a group of letters is selected, the player gets a choice of twelve games. The games are designed to address matching sounds, initial sounds, flash cards, letter sounds, tracing letters, upper and lower case, blending sounds, spelling, reading, sight words, fluent reading and word bingo. As examples, in the matching sounds game, the player is prompted by the narrator to place a lamb into the barn that displays the letter that the narrator speaks. The spelling game opens with a word written with the appropriate letters being drilled. The letters are then scrambled and the player must "drag" the letters back into the proper sequence. For assistance, players can touch the letter to hear its sound. The game sight words has the player tapping the spoken word as it floats over a frog. If the player chooses correctly, the frog grabs the word with its tongue. Colorful, playful farm and animal imagery illustrate this comprehensive series of drills to recognize letters, sounds and words. Additionally, there is an extensive parent/teacher's guide.
