Review:

Nate is a small town kid with Broadway dreams. Tim Federle's first installment, Better Nate Than Ever, chronicled Nate's adventure to New York to try out for the musical version of E.T. In Five, Six, Seven, Nate he's off to New York again, this time as a performer. He's landed the role of understudy for the character Eliot and rehearsals are about to begin.

As exciting as it is to have his wildest dream come true, Nate has downsides to navigate. There are mean co-stars and grumpy directors. The hours are long and hard; and loneliness, self-doubt and homesickness hound Nate. Luckily he has Libby, his best friend from home, to keep him steady.

For musical theater lovers, following Nate's progression from first rehearsal to opening night is as much of a treat for parents as for kids. The story is provides an insider's view of backstage and is packed with references to New York theater life.

Nate's middle-school theater geek makes an endearing protagonist, and Tim Federle the author/reader - Nate's doppelganger - makes for a fun and delightful listen.
