Review:

For her latest album, The Apple Tree and the Honey Bee, Bari Koral brought her band to Nashville to record with legendary Country and Rock music producer Brad Jones. The result is an album of catchy, pop-friendly tunes, which leads off with the highly upbeat "Dancing Bear," and the Johnny Cash inspired twang of "Big Truck." The good tunes continue with the singsong "Apple Tree," the synth pop of "Birthday," and the honky-tonk romp "Bee." Vocally, Koral reminds one of some of the new folk divas such as Dar Williams and The Nields, while stylistically her music now bears a Nashville luster, evident on the pop march "Sisters & Brothers," and the Uke-driven tale of growing up "When I'm Five."

Elsewhere, there is some New Orleans boogie on "Roller Coaster," a banjo driven tale of choices in "Yes & No," and the steel guitar supported "Fall Down." The album ends with the humorous, animal two-step "Back to the Farm," and the catchy "Give A Hug." Multi-instrumentalist Dred Scott and drummer Eric Halvorson back Koral's vocals and guitars. Although lyrics are not available on either the album or website, they are clear enough that children will have no problem singing along.
