Review:

Connections, shared humanity…through surprisingly far-reaching, themed content, Faces exposes readers to a wider world, celebrating diversity through a framework of common ground. Issues regularly explore varied facets of the culture and history of a country, a region or a city. And at times, the spotlight is on a significant aspect of past or present pop culture. One recent surprise focus: the Beatles. The magazine not only traced the Fab Four's origins, personalities and rise to superstardom, but the post-Beatles era, inspirations for songs and the group's lasting influence on music, fashion and culture. A feature about what was going on in the world during the rise of Beatlemania broadened the context-with an unexpected detour for a serious article about the current North American invasion by the mountain pine beetle. Faces' interaction with its target audience is key, and in this issue readers were invited to try their hand at creating a piece of '60s-style pop art using a digital camera and computer, and to use a lively feature about Beatles' songs as inspiration for original illustrations.
