Little Children, Big Challenges

Spring 2015 Website

Sesame Street's Little Children, Big Challenges toolkit is an extensive collection of resources designed to help caregivers and children navigate everyday challenges such as becoming frustrated while learning new skills, encountering separation anxiety, and learning patience during the pre-dinner hour. The toolkit offers several short videos for young children which address a range of these issues in classic Sesame Street style. There is also a comprehensive family guide and educator's guide that offers advice for adults in how to structure these everyday teachable moments. A few printable activities are also included, some of which are more useful than others; a chart for morning routines and a cut-and-color activity for identifying daily feelings are among the more concrete and helpful tools for children. Many of the daily challenges identified in this toolkit are also routinely discussed in parenting books and children's television shows, but the Sesame Street toolkit goes further in discussing strategies for developing patience and persistence. Moreover, it is worthwhile to have all the tips concentrated in one place.
