The Alice AppSpring 2015 Mobile Apps
There are many versions of Lewis Carroll's 1865 Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, including films, TV series, comic books, video games, and more. The Alice App version offers the full edition of the text illustrated with collaged images that are taken from Dutch and Flemish Renaissance master artworks. The lengthy introduction provides background information about the book and the author, Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, writing under the nom de plume Lewis Carroll. The pages of the book/app appear to be an illuminated manuscript giving the text an antique look. Via the interactive illustrations we see Alice grows as she takes the potion off of the table. She floats down a river in the Pool of Tears. One of the more interesting components of this app is the explanation at the end by the illustrator/developer of his intentions and sources of artwork, including links to some of the original images. Older children and adults will enjoy putting the pieces together to understand the developer's interpretation and analysis of the significance of the narrative.
