World Village Playset ChinaSpring 2015 Toys
Right out of the box, the beauty and quality of the World Village Playset- China is inescapable. Incorporating a range of cultural details, each piece relates to the others and is designed to create a world for learning and storytelling,. The thirteen (a lucky number in China) wooden puzzle pieces depict a variety of people and things and have Mandarin Chinese "hanzi" translations on the undersides. The solid pieces easily stand upon the embroidery-styled illustrated felt-backed play mat. The illustrated story prompt cards are closeup details from the play mat scenes. The travel journal booklet tells the story of Emma and Joe, two American children who introduce us to China as they explore parts of the country, meet people and learn more than a few things along the way. Our 8 and 10 year olds were completely captivated; they've placed China atop their travel wish list. Our 5 year olds enjoy simply acting stories across the playmat - and onto the surrounding tables and couches, and kitchen counters.
Cultural understanding is incredibly important and too often neglected. There is so much potential packed in this playset that we can't help wishing for an educator/parent guide.
