Review:

In author Mac Barnett's comic take on the "telephone" game, familiar to more than one generation of campers, birds on a telephone wire can't keep the message straight when a mama pigeon asks a small bird to tell her son it's time to "fly home for dinner." The baseball-loving little bird passes it on as "Tell Peter: Hit pop flies and homers." Each bird thereafter mishears the message according to its own occupying interest (airplanes, photography, crocodiles, etc.). The message grows ever wilder, of course, until a wise old owl sorts it out. Jen Corace's watercolor and pencil illustrations humorously capture all the shenanigans happening on, above and below the telephone wire.
