Review:

Wings Challenge is a learning system available for the Nabi Tablet which sits on top of the standard Android operating system. The content may not be the most creative, but it is extensive. And that alone deserves a lot of credit. The system has upwards of 300,000 (yes, that's three hundred thousand) questions, all aligned to Common Core Standards, designed for young students from pre-K to sixth grade. The questions focus on what we once called the 3 Rs - reading, writing, and arithmetic. These lessons however have a decidedly 21st century spin: video based tutorials and achievement badges for the kids and real-time analytic tools for the parents. And all for $4.99.

The robust and adaptive system functions well. The series of lessons or learning activities are presented in a "leveled" game-like environment framed around different islands (math, reading, writing), and successive levels are within buildings on the islands. Earning stars for good performance can be used to purchase apps, music and games in the treasure box. Parents and teachers can see how and where a child is progressing, and where he/she may need some help.

Sometimes learning is just about learning. The straightforward content is effective for introducing concepts as well as studying and practicing specific skill sets in math, reading, and writing. And there's a lot of it here for a wide range of students' ages and abilities ready to learn on a Nabi tablet.
