Review:

Smile for the camera! In Gracie and Friends Photo Friends, players take their picture as well a partner's in order to become part of twelve interactive scenes and activities. In each scene, whether they are collecting nuts as squirrels or driving cars on the freeway, they are faced with the task of dividing a collection of objects into equal groups.

Gracie and Friends Photo Friends is part of a four-app series that is designed to teach equipartitioning, the division of a collection of objects into equal groups or a continuous whole into equal parts. This skill is an important foundation to understanding fractions, ratios, division, multiplication, number sense, and number composition. Using the app helps children understand that creating equal groups means placing the same number of objects into each group. Additionally, it helps children learn comparative vocabulary such as more, less, fewer, equal, etc.

Unfortunately, although we greatly appreciate the app's focus on such a key skill, this benefit is soon outweighed by the activities' repetitive nature. Our young testers were immediately drawn to the app but quickly became disenchanted with having to complete the same challenges multiple times.
