Aquarelle Glow: Dolphins is a sophisticated watercolor painting kit designed for children from 8-13 years old. It consists of two, 10 inch square watercolor boards, pre-printed with animated dolphins at play. The raised outlines are made with glow-in-the-dark material that is not easy to see in daylight, but glows brightly in a darkened room. Other materials in the kit are five bottles of paint, a color mixing palette, a good quality dual tip paint brush, a pipette, a color test card, and an instruction book (presented in five languages). Water is the only other ingredient you need to get started.

The instruction book provides excellent details about watercolor painting techniques such as glazing and washes. The raised outlines resist the watercolors and act as a "basin" to help keep the pigments between the lines. Since this is not a paint-by-number set and no color key is given, extensive color selection and color mixing information is provided. A color wheel and examples resulting from each technique are illustrated. A table giving formulas for mixing 50 surprisingly rich colors, with the enclosed primary color paints, is found on the back of the booklet.

All of the artistic instruction provided in the booklet is great and can be learned and practiced by a motivated child, but a much more primitive (less artistic) approach by a child will still result in a custom painted creation.
