Review:

Bear doesn't remember how he ended up living on the street and sleeping on a cardboard bed. Finding himself chased away from shops full of food, he ends up eating from garbage cans. Bear smells bad and people hurry past and hold their noses. One day, however, a child notices him and tells him that he looks like a teddy bear but teddy bears don't look so sad. Speaking to him daily on her way to school, she becomes the bright spot in his life and helps him to realize that being a teddy bear is no small thing.

Bear is depicted as the size of a large man in a patched red coat. His plight is shown in differing perspectives standing out against a dramatic use of white pages. Bear is an appealing character that can help children empathize with the less fortunate.
