Chicken Soup for the Soul's Hidden Heroes

Chicken Soup for the Soul's Hidden Heroes

Spring 2016 Television
Ages: 13 - 16 yrs.
Rating: TV G

The "hidden" in the title of this show means hidden camera. And the "heroes" are everyday people showing courage and kindness in everyday moments.

Host Brooke Burke-Charvet introduces several stories in each episode. One is a complete hidden camera set-up story. For example, in one, an actress played a mom with a stroller and shopping bags. She needed help going up a steep set of stairs near a park. Would strangers stop to help? Some were too busy. Others were willing to carry the stroller all the way up - and then all the way back down when she changed her mind.

In another hidden camera set-up, a coffee shop employee was getting yelled at by his (fake) boss. Would any of the customers call out the mean boss and stick up for the bullied employee? Yes!

Short "Inspiration Station" clips focus on people who are doing good - such as Rosa's pizza shop in Philadelphia, where homeless people can come in and get a slice for free since every slice bought allows for one to be given away. Or police who take part in a community project to give "tickets" to kids for good behavior.

While tricking people and recording them with a hidden camera can send the wrong message, this show is devoted to highlighting good works. Its goal is to encourage anyone watching to remember that you don't have to do big heroic acts to make a difference. Just be kind, show courage and try to be the "best you can be."
