From "Weird but True" to "History's Greatest Hits" and "Bet You Didn't Know" to "By the Numbers", the magazine's sections are like eager students with their hands up shouting "Pick me!" The pages burst with information in a busy style that appeals to readers who enjoy the short and sassy.

Did you know that being in a good mood may make it easier to solve puzzles? (September 2015 issue). Or that Iceland and the Faroe Islands are the only countries in the world without mosquitoes? (December 2015/January 2016). On a recent "What in the World?" page, we enjoyed guessing - and learning - that one of the close ups was a photograph of a bowling ball. Looking at and think about things in a slightly different perspective is a big part of learning. And in the "Brainy" issue, readers enjoyed the Brain Games and the explanations of what happens in the brain when working to complete the three challenges. Content is extended online with challenges, quizzes and videos where members play for free.

Most advertisements are labeled as such and range from Goldfish Crackers and Orajel Toothpaste to Fuzzy Mud (Louis Sachar) and PBS shows. Not surprisingly, National Geographic takes full advantage to cross promote their books, online content, and initiatives. Nothing objectionable or alarming. When needed, parental permission is noted.

Although National Geographic Kids will hold the attention of the younger end of the 6-14 age range, the fun of having emerging readers share what they learn is bound to invite cross-generational appeal.
