Save Our Shelter

Save Our Shelter

Spring 2016 Television
Ages: 13 - 16 yrs.
Rating: TY G

Most animal shows are about saving or rescuing animals. But Save our Shelter is about helping the actual animal shelters.

It's like a home renovation show, but for animal rescue organizations.

In each episode, Rob North and Rocky Kanaka visit a shelter that is run down, old or otherwise in need of sprucing up or renovating. "It takes a special person to run an animal shelter," they say. So they talk to the owners about what's needed and then spend several weeks fixing up the place to help make it a viable adoption center.

Rob oversees the physical construction, while Rocky, founder of Dog for Dog dog food, works on finding families to adopt dogs and educating the local community about the shelter. Sponsors, including PetSmart and Bissell, donate money and products to help cover the costs.

Their goal is to show the importance of shelters and of finding good homes for animals in need. The hosts are fun to watch and the makeovers make for happy moments as shelter owners suddenly have nice new space and places for pet adoptions.
