Science Academy Volcano LabSpring 2016 Toys
The Science Academy Volcano Lab is a nice addition to the science kits available today. While a volcano kit is not original, we appreciated that this one is based on the twin crater volcanic island Little Sitkin near Alaska - and we could easily find it on a map.
The manual was informative and the instructions for eight different experiments were clear and included pictures, making it easy to follow along. Requiring adult supervision, we used our kit during a play date with two girls, ages 8 and 6. Reading the instructions aloud, we made fizzing lava bombs, three different types of eruptions, a mineral spring, crystallized mineral salts and learned about detecting mineral gasses. All three girls were able to participate and understand the steps and took turns in the roles they played in each experiment. After experiments concluded and the results cleaned up, we watched some YouTube videos of volcanic eruptions around the world and had a little discussion about eruptions and their effect on people and the world.
In addition to the experiment booklet, the kit includes: safety goggles, gloves, volcano island lab station, lava bomb molds, beaker, tweezers, stirring sticks, lava foam, PH paper, citric acid, and sodium bicarbonate.
