Primary Science Outdoor Discovery SetSpring 2016 Toys
The Primary Science Outdoor Discovery Set uses common household ingredients, pebbles, twigs and bugs, and craft items to conduct and complete 10 different experiments designed for ages 3+. The kit includes three plastic plant pots, watering can, bug jar with vented lid, ten activity cards, three plant stakes, sprouting jar, solid lid and handy scoopers for creating the projects. The "extra" items needed to complete the experiments - such as craft supplies, carrots (preferably with greens), popcorn kernels, seeds (flowers and beans) and blue food coloring - are inexpensive and easy to find if not on hand.
The ten activity cards are large, colorful, double-sided and, in a nice touch, laminated. On one side is the title of the experiment, pictures of the kit's tools needed (kids can help gather them) as well as any project extras required and an explanation of the activity's key concept, e.g. carrots and taproots (meaning they have tiny tubes inside the carrot that carry the water from the bottom to the top). The other side lists the clear step by step instructions.
We continued to learn by using different seeds and monitored and compared their growth with the others. We'll use the bug catcher all summer long to catch and view bugs. And revisit the activity cards to expand the experiments. As our children said, "Science is all about getting dirty and it's fun!"
