The nine piece New Sprouts Grow It plastic gardening play set includes a working watering can, two flowers, a carrot, a radish, a trowel and three pots for planting. The design is modern and appealing, and the components are sized and shaped for the busy hands of young gardeners.
When I garden, my daughter loves to follow me around with her tools and pretend to do what I am doing with the real plants. We talked about plants, how we take care of them and watch them grow, and why some plants are to be eaten, and others are not. Inside, we watch her create a world of her own. She will take care of her plants and knows that she needs to water them regularly and pretends to water her pots when she sees them among her toys.

Maria, a mother of three, has a BS in Biology and is a National Board Certified Teacher in Virginia. After teaching Biology for 10 years, one of those years in Quito, Ecuador, Maria is now a part-time Spanish teacher to sixth and seventh graders. The other half of her time is spent with her bilingual family, reading, cooking and enjoying sports.
