Review:

Thunder Boy Smith Jr. is named for his father. When, inevitably, his father is called "Big Thunder," our small hero is called "Little Thunder," and it offends him. He wants his own name. He tries on names that seem more fitting and fun, such as, "Mud in his Ears," "Can't Run Fast while Laughing," or even "Drums, Drums and more Drums." Nothing works, or sticks. His loving father is aware of what is troubling him and ultimately they find the perfect new name.

The lively, stylized illustrations both meld with and expand the text beautifully, showing that Thunder Boy's tag-along little sister is very much a part of his story. The exuberant characters dancing across double-page spreads have broad, black-ink outlines with simple, expressive body language.
