"Oh the Places You'll Go," Dr. Seuss's classic story of heading out into the world and making one's way, delivers the timeless theme of confidence and perseverance in the face of life's challenges.

The new digital storybook adaptation by Oceanhouse Media presents the familiar story in an entertaining and interactive way. Nearly every character and object in/ the apps screen pages are interactive (tapping the candle flames on and off, and the choir are especially fun) and children can discover hidden games and activities just by exploring them. These "read & play" activities include jigsaw puzzles, a Whack-a-Mole style game called Tap Attack, Fast Find, Speedy Sort, a memory matching games, word searches, and sequencing activities. In addition to their entertainment value, these activities develop and hone several key skills including, but not limited to, spatial awareness, fine motor activity, sorting, short-term memory, sequencing, and hand-eye coordination. /p>

As with all Oceanhouse Media Dr. Seuss apps, there are three reading modes: Read to Me, Read It Myself, and Autoplay. In each of these modes, children can interact with and manipulate most of the objects on the page. They can also hear and see the word for each object by tapping on it. In Read to Me mode, the story is narrated to the children with each word highlighted as it is read. And, children can remain on each page as long as they like. In Read It Myself mode, children read and explore independently and at their own pace. They can tap on any word to have it read to them. Finally, in Autoplay, the story is narrated to the children and pages turned at a steady pace. Highlighting words as they are read helps children make the connection between the written word and the spoken word. Speaking and showing the written word for selected objects makes connections between the written word, the spoken word, and the object they represent. All of these are critical reading skills.

To help parents monitor their children's progress, the parent section of the app keeps track of Minutes Read, Pages Read, and Book Read (how many times the book is completed). There is a section that offers other Oceanhouse Media Dr. Seuss apps for sale, but the written instructions will keep prereaders at bay.

Dr. Seuss's "Oh the Places You'll Go," is an engaging app that teaches important lessons about confronting challenges in life; a welcome addition to our digital bookshelf.
