Review:

The Colorín Colorado website (www.colorincolorado.org) caters to second-language learning, specifically English. Designed for teachers and students in Grades PreK-12, this resource-rich website supports educators who are teaching English as a second language, as well as families of English language learners.

The site includes a plethora of information, activities and advice to support a student's success in the classroom. From the role of an ESL teacher, to a selection of books and videos, and a resource library that is searchable by grade as well as by state, all of the links are active and up to date and work well on both a desktop computer as well as a mobile device. The information is very clear and to the point and written in a way that's accessible for parents as well as teachers. There's an option to translate the site to Spanish, a glossary for those not familiar with ELL terminology, and a link for professionals to sign up to receive weekly email updates about learning English as a second language.

Although I teach Spanish to English speakers, I have come across many families who are learning English as a second language. They don't want to be discriminated against, nor do they want to be treated "differently." Colorín Colorado offers support for families struggling in adapting in an unknown environment and delivers information in a sensitive but very informative and positive manner.

Colorín Colorado is an educational service of WETA, the flagship public broadcasting station in the nation's capital, and receives major funding from the American Federation of Teachers and National Education Association.
