Review:

Bogotá, Colombia native Adrés Salguero, known to children as 123 Andrés, delivers Arriba Abajo (Up Down), the much anticipated follow-up to his 2015 Latin-Grammy nominated debut CD, ¡Uno, Dos, Tres Andrés en español y en inglés!

Superior musicianship and attention to detail underline this lively bilingual album for younger children. The collection opens with the joyful counting and scale singing song "Vamos a Cantar" ("Sing Now With Me"). Ten Little Birds ("Diez Pajaritos") uses subtraction as a motif, and features the lovely duet vocals of fellow Columbian bilingual children's music singer Nathalia Palis. "Danzón and the Cha cha chá" is a superb dance instruction song, while "Cosquillas" ("Tickles") is a sweet silly tune about rhyming. "Sky, Ground" ("Cielo, Suelo") uses sensuous salsa backing to compare different examples of vertical orientation.

Elsewhere, "Las Dos Vacas" ("The Two Cows") encourages children to notice small details and differences, "Give Me an A" ("Dame una A)" is a gorgeous song to help remember vowels, and "Fly, Fly" ("Vuela, Vuela"), backed by the Columbian band Tú Rockcito, is a charming movement song. The album concludes with "La Semilla" ("The Seed") which tells the life cycle of trees and plants, and the pastoral "Monday Moon" ("Lunes, Luna) a song that uses wonderful images to remember the order and names of the days of the week.

Supplementing the album are online learning guides which explore numbers, language acquisition, pre-reading, and early science concepts. All activities, developed in conjunction with a classroom teacher, are in both English and Spanish.

Full of life and the joy of learning, Arriba Abajo is exquisitely written, produced and performed.
