Brain FreezeFall 2016 Games
Brain Freeze is a Battleship-style, strategy board game recommended for children aged five through ten years. It includes two Brain Freeze Game Boards, two secrecy shields, two dry erase markers, two dry erase wipe cloths, and fully-illustrated instructions. Before beginning, each player (or team) selects a secret sweet treat square and opponents then ask questions and eliminate variables (e.g., flavor, type of treat, etc.) in order to determine which square has been selected. The goal of the game is to be the first to guess your opponents secret sweet treat square.
Although similar to Battleship in the strategic nature of its game play, Brain Freeze offers a higher degree of complexity, because children can base their inquiries and guesses on four factors: the column, the row, the type of treat (e.g., ice cream sandwich, popsicle, etc.), and the flavor of the treat. The added complexity results in a slight learning curve when initially playing through the instructions, which are detailed and fully illustrated, become clearer with actual game play.
The game is entertaining, but also offers opportunities to practice strategic thinking, memory, logic, and deduction as children learn what types of questions to ask and in what sequence in order to best identify their opponents square. The game also encourages good sportsmanship and turn-taking as well as cooperative play if children chose to play in teams.
