Meccano MicronoidFall 2016 Toys
The Meccano Micronoids are interactive robot toys for children aged eight years and up (although our younger testers were quite at ease with the form and function). Children use the kit's 120+ pieces and included tools to build the Micronoid before experimenting with basic programming. Right off the bat, the Micronoids help teach and hone important developmental and coding skills such as following of instructions, sequencing, spatial awareness, fine motor skills, and hand-eye coordination.
The Micronoids feature simple, push-button coding: they can be programmed to move forward, turn right, and turn left. Clearly, the programming options are somewhat limited; however, the several play modes add to the fun. In 8 Ball Mode, he can answer simple yes/no questions (e.g., Will I win my lacrosse game?). In Dance Mode, he dances, bops, and wiggles to music. And, in Autonomous Mode, he can giggle, babble, dance, sing, and even interact with other Micronoid robots.
