AdventureBoxSpring 2017 Magazines
AdventureBox, a magazine designed to follow Bayard's Story Box, is a series of 68-page chapter books for newly-independent readers aged six through nine years. Each book features six to eight fully-illustrated chapters, which are written to be read independently but can also be read together with younger and/or less experienced readers. The stories themselves have themes such as acceptance, altruism, forgiveness, cooperation, and perseverance, but they are written in a light-hearted, engaging style that never feels heavy-handed. The books also feature a section called Nature Box which contains information and photographs on a wide variety of topics including plants, insects, birds, and so forth. The Game Pages are filled with mazes, fill-in-the-letters, words searches, word games, spot-the-difference, and connect-the-dot activities. These activities help with letter awareness, phonetic skills, and sequencing, all of which are critical reading skills. There is also a short quiz on the back cover of the book to help evaluate reading comprehension and guide discussion questions. Readers, caregivers, and educators can also visit the Adventure Box website for enrichment materials and activities as well as a free 14-page booklet on making reading fun.
