Kids' Choice Awards (2016)

Spring 2017 Television
Ages: 6 - 11 yrs.
Producer: Nickelodeon
Rating: TV G
Review:

The show likes to tout itself as "the loudest show on television" and "the loudest place on Earth." That's not a selling point for parents, but it seems to appeal to kids, especially the ones in the audience who are encouraged to constantly yell and scream.

The cheers are usually urged for a movie star, TV actor or some other celebrity because the awards go to the "favorites," as voted on by the "kids." Hence, The Kids' Choice Awards.

One standout this year was host Blake Shelton. His easygoing, goofy humor set a lighter, less-shouty tone for the show. And his opening "Star Wars" sketch was worthy of any Oscar or Emmy award show. Throughout the show, he kept the fun rolling as he blasted kids with a toilet paper gun and dressed as a silly unicorn, as dictated by fan voting.

Among the stars that appeared were Ellen DeGeneres, Sarah Hyland, Fifth Harmony, Bethany Mota, Andy Samberg, John Stamos and Amy Poehler. Zendaya, who got the award for Favorite Female TV Star/Kids Show told the crowd, "To all the parents: Thanks for letting me be a role model. I do not take that for granted!"

The overall message from most winners: Follow your dreams. And that's a good choice for kids to make.
