WORD OF MOUSESpring 2017 Audio Book
Mice have an average lifespan of one year, their families are called a "mischief" and it's not unusual for one mischief to include 97 kids. These are a few things you'll learn in this charming story told by Isaiah, an escaped lab mouse, trying to reconnect with his almost 100-member mischief.
Isaiah is special. He has sky-blue fur, and he can read and write. It made him popular with the long coats at the lab, but the lab is a creepy place. And now that he's out, he needs to get his family out, too.
Enter Hayley, a young girl who could use a few friends. A reading writing mouse is a great start. They hit it off fast and hatch a plan.
Each chapter begins with a plucky Isaiah aphorism, like "God gave us the acorns, but he doesn't crack them open for us." Red-tailed hawks and house cats loom large in this world lived at ground level. Imminent danger and scrumptious pastry crumbs lurk or tease at every turn. It's a story chock full of heroic, terrifying and bumbling moments. Calling upon his cute scrappy smarts, and a little luck, Isaiah manages to find his mischief.
Narrator Nate Begle delivers a lively and colorful mouse, and captures, too, the fumbling menace and mystery of the lab.
