Review:

In her charming 2014 picture book, "Gaston," prolific children's author Kelly DiPucchio celebrated the true meaning of family in the story of a bull dog puppy with poodle siblings who temporarily changes places with his counterpart, Antoinette, a poodle raised with bulldogs. Antoinette takes center stage here as she tries to figure out what makes her special. Her bulldog brothers' talents are obvious: Rocky is "clever," Ricky is "fast," and Bruno is "strong." Antoinette finds her way when one of Gaston's sisters, the little poodle pup Ooh-La-La, goes missing and Antoinette (with "a tug in her heart and a twitch in her nose") dashes to the rescue. Award-winning illustrator Christian Robinson's acrylic paintings, with distinctive brushwork and a striking color palette, fairly zing with energy as Antoinette races through the pages, saves the day, and in the process discovers her own special gift.
