Review:

With the simplest of repetitions, I Like, I Don't Like portrays child labor around the world. On the left-hand page of each double page spread, a happy child is shown enjoying something with which most affluent children can identify. On the right-hand page of the same spread, another child is shown laboring with the same objects. For example, a happy group of children playing soccer illustrates the words, "I like soccer balls." On the opposing page a small child is shown sewing the leather pieces of the ball together over the words, "I don't like soccer balls."

The realistic, full color, mixed media with collage illustrations carry the book by visually expanding the simple text, suggesting the backgrounds of the characters, usually, a single child per page. The last double-page spread, says, "I like playing," on the left with a change in the repetitions on the right, "What is playing?"
