Review:

Sam's family has recently moved to a southern Mississippi town on the Pascagola River close to the Gulf coast in an area filled with streams, bayous and dense Cyprus swamps. His father, the new sheriff, gives Sam a fishing boat for his birthday; unfortunately, Sam hates fishing.

So instead of going fishing as he has told his parents, Sam begins exploring the depths of the forbidden swamps and discovers an old fish camp with a strange boy, Davey, living there. Intrigued by a rather cockamamie story, Sam begins to help Davey and fibbing to his parents until his deceits are large and burdensome.

This first-person adventure is a thrilling page-turner with a scary denouement and a likeable protagonist whose missteps go seriously awry.
