Review:

The Timex TimeMachines app, created by Scholastic for children aged six through nine years, teaches all the major elements of time, feels much more like a game than a math lesson. The app features a series of tutorials, practice sessions, and three levels of time-themed games to hone learning. The tutorials include information and questions on clock basics, the difference between "a.m." and "p.m.," and how to tell time by the hour, half-hour, and quarter-hour. The practice sessions provide children with a time in digital format (e.g., 5:40) and ask children to move the analog clock hands to match.

The games come in three distinct levels. Level One: Time Stopper gives a digital time and children stop the spinning clock hands to match it. Level Two: Counting Time presents a clock with a certain amount of time shaded and asks children to create that time by adding combinations of 2, 3, 5, 10, and 15 minutes. And, Level Three: Rocket Time, is a Space Invaders-styled game in which players fly through space collecting clocks showing whole, then half, then quarter hour times. All of these games help children learn and hone critical time-telling skills. Highly recommended.
