UNICEF Kid Power

Fall 2017 Mobile Apps
Ages: 6 - 12 yrs.
Distributor: UNICEF USA
Platform: iPhone
Review:

UNICEF Kid Power is an app designed to be used in conjunction with UNICEF Kid Power Bands and/or any device with an activity tracker (e.g., iPhone, Apple Watch, etc.). Being active and completing "missions" in the app earns points towards UNICEF's purchase of ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF) packets for malnourished children around the world. These specially-formulated packets are designed to treat and reverse the effects of malnutrition; a full treatment is 150 of these packets. For each 10 points accumulated, one therapeutic packet is unlocked.

The "missions" take children around the world to countries where the food packets are sent such as Haiti and Uganda. In addition to the missions, the app includes videos that explain malnutrition and the importance of helping children get the food that they need to be healthy. Not only does the UNICEF Kid Power app explain world hunger to children, it also gives them a way to help. Available for free on the App Store or Google Play.
