Review:

Toot the Horn, skillfully orchestrates homemade "industrial re-percussion" instruments, guitar and bass and exquisite three and four part vocal harmonies. Aside from highly inventive percussion, the CD celebrates Judaism through musical styles drawn from around the globe. The album begins with their percussive song of "Unity," followed by the African/Hebrew chant "Tongo-Oshen Shalom," and "Modeh Ani," a prayer of gratitude, punctuated with body percussion. Elsewhere, "T'Fillah!" transforms Danny Flores' jazz classic "Tequila" into a vehicle for prayer, while the album features fresh new remixes of previously released tunes such as "God Is" and the lyrical and lovely "To Be One." Highlights include "Eyes Wide Open" a funky ode to mindfulness, the experimental percussion of "Moment of Noise," and holy day celebration songs such as "Rosh Hashana, Head of the Year" and "Pharaoh Pharaoh" which borrows the melody of Louise Louise" to tell a Passover appropriate tale. While the religious content of the songs may appeal more to a specific audience, many of the tracks on this CD, such as "Let There Be Light," are simply beautiful in their universal humanism.
