Review:

Husband and wife Bobby and Virginia Matthews, aka mömandpöp, have a deft touch, offering kid-savvy, parent-friendly original songs zippy with humor and an infectious, clap along, rock n' roll beat. A sampling: In "Truly Peculiar," a "once upon a time" forest encounter with easily offended fairy tale creatures leads to froggy consequences. Comic timing and silly voices turn the a capella "Socks and Shoes" into a giggle; a child's growing sense of independence receives positive reinforcement in "Lookin' Good," and the surprising "Roy G. Biv" turns out to be a rainbow personified, each color represented by a letter in his name. The Matthews balance humor with a more reflective mood in such soulful tracks as the gently swaying "Leaves" and the compassion-fostering "Take Care": "Take care of the people you love, take care of the people who need love … " The repetitive "Old People are Cool" and noisy "Pizza Party" can be forgiven in this otherwise outstanding, warm-hearted and funny album.
