Review:

I Got This!, the box proclaims, is where confidence meets competence. This Fat Bran Toys game is all about judging your own ability to do a task well. In nine rounds per game, players use such props as ping pong balls, buttons, a ring, and a measuring tape (all included with the game) to meet challenges posed by game cards -- toss an item with your non-dominant hand and catch it on your foot; bounce the ball a particular way a certain number of times, or catch it; estimate the distance between two people's elbows. Every player has to complete the same challenges (to demonstrate competence), but players get to decide for themselves how many points a challenge is worth (showing their confidence). A scorecard labeled 1 through 9 helps players keep track; each point value can and must only be tried once, so players need to save the 9-point challenge for a sure thing and keep that 1 around for something nearly impossible. Fortunately, there are do-overs (one per player per game) just in case someone misses on a high-points challenge they were sure they could do. And when they are especially confident, once per game they can play the "I Got This!" card before the challenge to double the potential points.

Because this game requires a fair amount of coordination, a skill that generally increases with age, younger players will find themselves mismatched with older siblings; though the game directions do not offer advice on this, parents can always decide to award extra do-overs to keep the game balanced. Due to the level of fun and silliness in this game, and the range of players (two to twelve), it lends itself well to parties and group game nights.

We were especially pleased that this game kept us on our feet; though the play time even for a small group is 15 to 20 minutes, we were so active that the time went quickly. And we loved the crazy challenges best; at one point we had to push a ball with our noses! This is a quirky and welcome new addition to our game collection.
