Review:

The younger sibling of OwlKids' chickadee publication, Chirp is similarly formatted and appropriately subtitled "The See and Do, Laugh and Learn Magazine," with themed issues featuring humor, simple crafts, physical recipes and science experiments, games, stories, and poems. A sunny yellow cartoon chick in red boots is the magazine's namesake, serving as tour guide through this wide swath of activities and fun. September's "Slide into School" theme was representative of the magazine's consideration for its target audience. Offering reassurance for a child's big step into early education and encouraging curiosity for learning, this issue was crafted around science topics and an invitation to "… study the world,/Ask why, ask how./We'll listen and learn, We are students now!" It included a visit to a classroom in photos, cartoon Chirp's pictograph adventure in "space school," a jaunty exploration of "the scientific method" led by cartoon "Vole Brothers," a list of things to do before school starts, and a short story (with a link to an audio version) about cooperation and being a friend, in a playground setting. Jokes, experiments, a "word of the month," puzzles and more round out the magazine's regular content.
