"Baby Shark," the title song in this collection, has one of the sweetest animated little sharks ever rendered for children this reviewer has seen. As this little guy swims along against an uncluttered underwater background, he is joined by other members of his family set to the lyrics, "Mama shark doo-doo-do-do-do-doodoodoo, mama shark doo-doo-do-do-do-doodoodoo." Enter Papa shark, Grandma Shark, Grandpa shark (doo-doo-do-do-do-doodoodoo). . . and then they get hungry, so enter, "Little fish, doo-doo-do-do-do-doodoodoo." Perhaps not the most lyrically sophisticated tune, but it's definitely a sweet one. The same can be said for the other tunes on the DVD, many of which are familiar nursery rhymes, including "Five Little Ducks," "The Muffin Man," "Five Little Speckled Frogs," and "Mr. Golden Sun." Songs focus on Pre-K skills such as counting; letter, number, and color recognition; and building common vocabulary words.

Throughout the 20 selections, the animation is very basic but it is bright and pleasant. In a world of lightning-fast editing and frenetically-paced music and characters, Baby Shark & More Kids Songs offers a nice opportunity to slow things down a little and let kids simply breathe. As a teaching tool, experts at the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association say there is value in teaching children by using repetitive sounds and movements and they even say, when done in groups, nursery rhymes can improve social skills. And that's worth singing about . . . doo-doo-do-do-do-doodoodoo . . .
