Review:

Bianca has the ability to grant wishes, a trait she shares with her mother. They both have Wish Magic and Bianca also has fairy-like wings and the ability to dart around. With a snap of her fingers and a cheerful, "Wishenpoof!" a wish will come true. Well, most of the time it will come true. Bianca is still getting the hang of this magic thing and sometimes her good intentions go awry.

Bianca's Wish Magic is driven by her desire to bring happiness to her friends and family. In one episode titled "Daddy Daughter Day," Bianca has big plans for a special day. She's eager to use her magic to make the most of the day but her father wants her to understand that any day can be special, even without magic—simply because they're spending time together. Their activities include imagination, exploration, exercise, and noticing the little details of the environment; when their big plan takes an unexpected turn, they use critical and creative thinking, rather than magic, to solve the problem.

In "Bianca's Museum Trip," Bianca's class goes on a field trip but the visit suddenly seems a lot less fun when the teacher assigns pairs and Bianca is separated from her best friend Penelope. Instead, her field trip buddy is Oliver. They need to work together to complete an assignment but they get off to a rocky start. Bianca realizes the key to compromise is communication and once she learns more about Oliver, she figures out a way to complete the assignment. With a little extra help from Wish Magic, the adventure takes an even more interesting turn, teaching them about overcoming fears and about life beneath the sea.

Episodes usually begin with Bianca and her talking teddy bear Bob speaking directly to little viewers and inviting them to imagine something with her. Storylines are based on simple concepts that promote social and emotional development and Bianca, her friends, and her family explore concepts of teamwork, responsibility, and managing expectations through their experiences. They learn, too, about the importance of not wasting wishes on things that aren't, well, wish-worthy in the first place. Wishenpoof! offers a fanciful premise but it doesn't ignore the reality that it takes hard work, not just wishes, to achieve a goal or to get along with people.
