Review:

The song selection in Mae Robertson's All That Matters is inspired, drawing from traditional material such as "All The Pretty Horses" to soft soothing arrangements of songs by Mark Knopfler ("All That Matters"), Jonathan Edwards ("Little Hands") and the lovely "For Baby (For Bobbie)" from John Denver's back catalog. Other highlights include a rich, sweeping rendition of Emmylou Harris' "Love and Happiness," a beautiful accordion accompanied interpretation of the Mancini standard "Moon River," and Tim O'Brien's reassuring "Full Circle." The overall feeling of the album is restful, yet the arrangements are lively and full. Robertson is joined by some very skillful and sensitive accompanying musicians, and at the heart of it all is her deliciously dusky alto. One of the album's finest moments is the Robertson co-penned, lilting and lyrical "Blue Hearted Mountains" which has one wishing for more. The album closes perfectly with the World War One-era cowboy lullaby "There's a Long, Long Trail." An album to set the mood for children's bed time, and one to replay for adults to wind down their day.
