Review:

Twelve-year-old Louisiana Elefante has lived with her eccentric granny ever since her trapeze artist parents died. Currently, they live in Lister, Florida where Louisiana has two best friends, Ramie and Beverly, Archie the King of Cats and Buddy the one-eyed dog. Louisiana has crafted a circle of relative stability and happiness — until Granny awakens her in the middle of the night, announces the day of reckoning has arrived, and insists they leave home immediately. Granny's always had middle-of-the-night ideas, but this one feels different.

They run out of gas in south Georgia, and Granny summons her con-artist skills to refill the tank. When Granny is felled by terrible toothache, Louisiana must drive the car into the small town of Richford, Georgia, find a dentist, and use the last of their money to pay for one night in the "Good Night, Sleep Tight" Motel. Louisiana gathers her talent, wit, and the skills Granny taught her to stay a few more nights.

Granny deserts Louisiana leaving a letter telling her that she was found in a box in an alley behind the five and dime and that she made up the story about her parents being trapeze artists; she had no idea who they were. Now, loveable, clever, heart-broken Louisiana must decide who she wants to be, where she wants to live, and who she wants to forgive.
