Review:

Whether it's Curious George or Curious Traveler, I applaud anyone who is curious about the world around us. It's so important to explore, to ask questions and to dare to wonder why things are the way they are. Any show that encourages being curious about the world around us is a good one.

Curious Traveler, a PBS series hosted by Scottish-born, Emmy-winning travel journalist Christine van Blokland, doesn't just visit a city, but does a deep dive into it. "This is your all-access pass," she says.

Curious Stockholm, Curious Vienna, Curious Paris — the episodes go to well-known places to discover not-so-well-known churches, caves, castles and more. The camera footage is beautiful, as it features food, entertainment, historic buildings, vast vistas — all the things you'd do if you could visit. And Christine is always asking questions, such as, "Why are there so many giant, ornate public buildings all in a ring around Vienna?" She asks about 10 more in the course of each episode. "And most importantly, how do you take in all of Vienna's beauty at once?"

Curious Traveler, goes a step beyond most travel shows that simply feature segments on touristy things to do (not that there's anything wrong with that). If you watch this show, you'll learn a lot about a place's history and culture. I'd be happy to stroll through a French village with Christine, as she makes it fun. But since that isn't happening, I'm happy to sit back and discover the world while watching.
