Review:
The selections on this gentle, embracing collection are made with integrity. The artists who perform are as varied as Lena Horne, Raffi and Jerry Garcia; what they have in common are sweet melodies and vocals. Horne sings her unforgettable rendition of Gershwin’s “Summertime”; the late Grateful Dead icon, with notable musician David Grisman, turns in an unexpectedly moving “Shenandoah Lullaby”; “Brahm’s Lullaby” is tenderly rendered by Linda Ronstadt and Aaron Neville. Ladysmith Black Mambazo’s hushed rhythms are heard in ”Be Still My Child”; Taj Mahal’s “Little Brown Dog” is nothing short of breathtaking and Harry Nilssen’s “Blanket for a Sail” is magical. Even Maria Muldaur’s quirky “Melancholy Baby” and Kathie Lee Gifford’s sentimental “Cody’s Song” snuggle into this company nicely.
