It's nice to see that Jerry Bruckheimer, producer of big flashy films like "Con Air" and "Days of Thunder", is behind this delightful, heartfelt, very low-special effects film about football - and a lot more, of course.

In this fact-based story of the forced integration, Herman Boone (played by Denzel Washington) becomes the head coach of the 1971 T.C. Williams High School Titans in Alexandria, Va. He's the outsider, a coach whose transfer from South Carolina bumps the popular white hometown guy into an assistant spot. At first, it's very rough going for everybody. But the team of racially mixed players, portrayed perfectly by a variety of young of actors, realizes that it will get nowhere unless everyone works together. The teammates wind up bonding over the pigskin and go on to lead the way in the town that's slow to change. An excellent story, a moving film and a wonderful message for all ages, as well as an important reminder of those turbulent early days of integration.
