Review:
Bold, colorful forms animate this book for younger children, creating a game that builds on visual and verbal tensions. The concept is simple: a question (with a visual clue) is posed on one double-page spread and then answered on the next. Thus, we discover that the abstract shapes that appear on the same page with their question - "Does a bird have a big black wet nose?" - really belong to a friendly, floppy-eared dog. Derivative as it is of Lucy Cousins, Walsh's book offers a benchmark for the kind of visual joy that first books should aspire to.
