Review:
This is a very sophisticated piece of work with potential for serious academic use by students in middle and high school, and enjoyment for adults of all ages and walks of life.

The text, photographs, and movies are readily accessible through a very friendly graphic interface. The manual is clear and contains much useful information, but the CD is so simple to navigate that most people will be able to skip it. Explanations of spatial phenomena are straightforward and thought provoking, and Internet links are available for additional information on any object. The graphic images are stunning thanks to data from the Hubble telescope and various observatories and universities across the globe. Actor Chase Masterson (Star Trek DS9, ER, etc.) provides a very pleasant narration, with occasional commentary by astronomer Brent Tully.

Even the best multimedia encyclopedia can only scratch the surface of a subject this vast, but it is exciting to see this topic given such in-depth coverage. The scientific content is sound. The graphic interface is simple. The images are beautiful.
