Review:
This dreamlike wisp of a tale from the realm of make-believe won't be every child's cup of tea, but for those susceptible to its magical pictures and eerie narrative, its spell may prove irresistible. A beggar girl is sent on a quest by a merciless king to find a unicorn. ("The unicorn can only be trapped by a quiet young girl with a gentle voice.") How the heroine, Zoe, finds the mythical beast and then saves it from being killed by the ruthless monarch, is the meat of the story. Like a dream, the narrative is short on logic but rich in memorable images. It is a work more likely to appeal to small girls than to boys, as un-p.c. as this observation may be.
