Review:
"Got a pocket full of stardust/Gonna sprinkle it around...." Spirit-lifting folk and jazz rhythms, lyrics that tell stories and have a dash of dreams and magic between the lines: children's music veterans Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer are at their best in these beguiling, winding down songs. Arranged in order from gently playful to lulling melodies that are just right when little heads begin to nod, the tracks range from the graceful title tune to "The Silliest Dream"-- a funny-bone tickling, dream-within-a-dream song-- and the delightful, jazzily mellow "Countin' Cars on the Sleepytime Train." Expressive acoustic instrumentals include Celtic music played by Ensemble Galilei. Other highlights include a snuggly "Jiggle and Tickle," zaniness that builds deliciously in "Who's Been Sleeping in My Bed" ("A kitten is lickin' at the chick who's pecking at the dog who's barking at the frog who's jumping on the mouse...") and "Whispers," a spoken poem with a goodnight kiss at the end ("Flowers whisper to the grass/Grass whispers to the dew...").
